Dr. Mickey Spillers - Veterinarian
Dr Spillers have been a part of Russellville Animal Clinic starting in September 1979. He, Debra, Mitch and Jacob moved here from Harrogate Tennessee that fall and has been a part of this community 4 decades. Soon Addy joined the family that has grown to 17 with 9 grandkids.
He graduated from Lawrence County High School and then Auburn University. Dr Spillers practiced for a short time in Moulton and Harrogate Tennessee before settling in Russellville.
Professionally he favored cattle practice. He aided in the eradication of bovine brucellosis from this area of Alabama. He made dairy herd health management available to this areas dairy farmers. He made reproductive health for beef herds an emphasis of his time. Pregnancy diagnosis at sale time was started at Northwest Alabama Stockyard.
The first Sunday after moving here the Spillers family worshiped at North Highlands Church of Christ. They have continued to worship and serve God as members of that congregation. Mickey and Debra have been involved with youth and teen ministry, Bible class teachers and others works of the church. Currently Dr. Spillers serves as an elder at North Highlands.
Over the years the people have been the best part of life. There are so many memories of people and their animals. Some are funny, some tragic, almost all are heart warming. The Doctors and staff At Russellville Animal Clinic all are a blessing in my life.
The family hobbies include sunsets, water sports, hiking and cycling. Cedar Creek Lake and the Bankhead Forrest are favorite spots.
Dr Spillers is a member of the AVMA, AlVMA, Society of Theriogenology, The America Association of Bovine Practitioners and the Alabama Cattleman’s Association.
As times change there are no more dairies in North Alabama but there is an abundance of people that care about the health and will being of their herds, horses and pets. Dr Spillers continues to love and serve this community and their animals, all animals great and small. Without His beautiful wife, Debra, he would not have done so well.
